Detailed Itinerary:

Day 1: Cusco – Km 82 – Wayllabamba

  • Start of the Trek: Transfer from Cusco to Km 82, the starting point of the Inca Trail.
  • Hiking: Approximately a 6-hour hike to the Wayllabamba campsite, passing through the small village of Miskay and the archaeological site of Llactapata.
  • Elevation Reached: 3000 meters above sea level.

Day 2: Wayllabamba – Warmiwañusca – Pacaymayo

  • Ascent: A challenging day ascending to the highest point of the trek, Warmiwañusca pass (Dead Woman’s Pass) at 4215 meters.
  • Descent: Descend to the Pacaymayo campsite at 3600 meters, enjoying stunning views and opportunities to observe diverse flora and fauna.
  • Distance: 11 kilometers.

Day 3: Pacaymayo – Chaquicocha – Wiñaywayna

  • Exploration: Continue through the archaeological complexes of Runkurakay and Sayacmarca, discovering ancient Inca tunnels and agricultural terraces.
  • Campsite: Arrive at Wiñaywayna at 2700 meters, the last campsite before Machu Picchu.
  • Attractions: Visit the impressive Wiñaywayna archaeological site.

Day 4: Wiñaywayna – Machu Picchu – Cusco

  • End of the Trek: Early morning hike to the Sun Gate (Intipunku), where you’ll get your first spectacular view of Machu Picchu at sunrise.
  • Guided Tour: Approximately 2-hour guided tour of Machu Picchu, exploring its plazas, temples, and terraces.
  • Return to Cusco: After the tour, free time to explore on your own before taking the train back to Cusco from Aguas Calientes.
